The location of Sophienterrassen
Aspiration, responsibility, challenge
The unique location of the Sophienterrassen in Hamburg's most sought-after residential area, in Harvestehude between Mittelweg and Harvestehuder Weg, has had a decisive influence on the neighbourhood in a number of ways. The demand for a luxurious and elegant lifestyle arose from the neighbourhood's history as an area of magnificent villas and country estates. The responsibility here was to create values that would last for generations. But not as a copy of the traditional, but as a transformation into aesthetically contemporary and timeless forms.
Recognising, understanding and creatively implementing both was ultimately the great challenge.
The neighbourhood on the map
The diversity of life and living at a glance
The Sophienterrassen are developing along two axes. On the one hand, from urban to natural, i.e. from the campus on Mittelweg with its office buildings to the villas on the Alster on Harvestehuder Weg. On the other hand, from the Sophienpalais to the townhouses in the southern part. In the centre are two park villas and the Sophie. A separate car-free path, the Harvestehuder, opens up the inner park areas and squares.
Philosophy realised in every detail
Committed to our Hanseatic heritage
The city of Hamburg, as a Free and Hanseatic City, already embodies the same values that characterise the style of the Sophienterrassen: freedom and Hanseatic spirit. The freedom to enjoy nature in the heart of the city, the freedom to live your own individual style and the freedom not to have to take care of everything yourself come together here with a cosmopolitan outlook, pioneering spirit and stability, as well as understated luxury and joie de vivre in every detail. Finally, Hanseatic civic spirit is embodied by the community of like-minded individuals.
The Sophienterrassen concept
More than a building or ensemble of buildings – a place to live
The Sophienterrassen concept encompasses many facets that are mutually dependent or influence one another, and together form a dazzling jewel. Exciting contrasts play an important role here: privacy and public space, nature and urban culture, memories of the past and forward-looking design create a diversity that never becomes monotonous. This is also reflected in the different types of living, residential areas and apartment sizes. Special services and facilities prove that it is not just about rooms, but about living spaces, and that the focus is not on buildings, but on people and their needs.
The history of a unique piece of Hamburg
Living witnesses to an eventful past
A walk through the Sophienterrassen will reveal many witnesses to an eventful past. There is the delightful old villa, which – renovated and used as an office building – on Mittelweg points to the Gründerzeit. Or the listed Sophienpalais: built in the 1930s as a stately, representative military building, it has not only been converted, but is now characterised by its new, modern-designed sunny side and its noble size inside. But there are also much livelier relics, which are deeply rooted in the history of the Sophienterrassen: venerable giant trees, planted in the late 19th century, which act as small biotopes and create an impressive spectacle of light and shadow in the park.
